Great Lakes Lacquer The Island Horizon Collection

This post is not sponsored. I did receive the items via giveaway.

Hi everyone! Today we’re looking at Great Lakes Lacquer’s The Island Horizon Collection inspired by Animal Crossing. This collection is available for purchase on the GLL website as a collection and individually; the bottles are 15ml and retail for $13/each or $85 for the entire collection which saves a few bucks. For all photos I used UNT peel-off base coat, Vibrant Vinyls Fast and Hard, and matte photos used Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat. These nail polishes all dry fairly shiny on their own, but I recommend a top coat for maximum shine and wear. Also, GLL just introduced a paddle brush, which made painting these evenly very easy. Now, on to the polish!

Celestial Obsessed

“Inspired by that chic owl (Celeste) that makes you hope it's star wishing time. A lavender pink filled    with shifting shimmer that touches on bronze, gold, green, and blue with a bit of scattered holographic.”

Celestial Obsessed is a lovely delicate cool-toned pink. It’s absolutely packed with shimmer, to the point it’s almost foil-y, and the shimmer flash is very visible, especially looking straight-on. The most prominent shift is gold-green. Depending on the tone of lighting, one end of the spectrum was shy for me. The holo is pretty subtle, especially with this polish having alllll the shimmer, and like all holographic pigment is best viewed with strong direct lighting like a flashlight. (Presumably it would also twinkle in the sun if you’re lucky enough not to have gray skies!) The formula is good, on the thinner side like all of the shimmer polishes in this collection, so make sure to wipe your brush. This took three thin coats for full opacity on me, but it could be done in two if you have a less visible nail line. Using a matte top coat seemed to lighten how the polish looks, interestingly.

Bug ON

Inspired by my favorite island visitor, Flick. A vampy burgundy absolutely bursting with iridescent flake that pops purple, pink, orange, and green at points.

Bug ON is a gorgeous juicy dark cool-toned red. It’s my favorite in the collection; I love vampy colors, especially in the fall and winter, and I think the color and flakies are stunning. The flakes pretty much cover the entire nail. The most prominent flash I get from the flakes is pink, then orange with a few pops of purple -  green pops at extreme angles in the bottle but didn’t on the nail for me. All of the polishes with flakes are slightly thicker than the shimmers, but I wouldn’t call it thick, and it’s easy to work with. Between the darker color and flakes providing coverage, this reached full opacity at two thin coats for me. This is also fantastic matte.

The Real Boss

Inspired by who we all know REALLY runs the island, right? If Isabelle could just stick to the news in the morning instead of her other habits... A corally crelly filled with iridescent flake that pops purple, pink, red, and orange.

The Real Boss is a beautiful, very slightly muted coral packed with flakes. This color screams island vacation sunset to me. The flakes flashed mostly pink, orange, and purple for me with some green at extreme angles. I didn’t see red, but YMMV depending on lighting and nail length. The formula is the same as Bug ON, and reached opacity in two coats. This polish is also lovely with a matte top coat.

The Bell Boys

Those Nook guys. Gotta love 'em. A leaf green brimming with bronze and gold iridescent flake.

The Bell Boys is a bright summery green with a ton of flakes. It’s a lively color that reminds me of the beginning of fall. I can see the entire bronze-gold-green shift very easily. This polish was a little more sheer than the other flake polishes, and at two coats it was opaque looking down at it but showed my nail line a bit when light hit the underside of my nail. This also looks great with matte top coat, and would make a good base for fall nail art.

Heeere Fishy, Fishy

This one is for CJ, although I stole the name from Zucker. It's what he says when he's fishing. A shimmering pastel multichrome shifting through silver, with a strong shift to soft gold, green aqua and turquoise.

Heeere Fishy, Fishy is a pale icy blue that I would classify as a foil. This color reminded me of both fish scales and Queen Frostine from CandyLand. The silver and green shifts are most prominent on my nails, with the blue shift popping a little at extreme angles. The formula is the same as the other shimmers, but is the sheerest because of the base color. Still, three coats covered my nail line unless you’re looking closely at an angle. Using a matte top coat gave it an interesting frosted glass look.

The Enabling Sisters

Their clothing will stuff your inventory full. And strip you of your bells. Violet filled with a shifting shimmer that touches on bronze, gold, green, and blue with a bit of scattered holographic.

The Enabling Sisters is a beautiful slightly cool toned purple that’s another almost-foil packed with intense shimmer. The color and shimmer together give off a unicorn vibe. My favorite shimmer shift on this polish is the blue-green shift, it’s quite pretty with the purple. The holo popped more on this than Celestial Obsessed, but it’s subtle. The formula is the same as the other shimmer polishes, on the thinner side but easy to work with. Two coats just slightly showed my nail line at an angle, so I did three thin coats for full opacity. Matte top coat softened the shimmer and made the color appear a little lighter, similar to what happened with Celestial Obsessed.

Will-O-Wisp

G-G-G-GHOST! He's our favorite spectre that's afraid of other ghosts. Can I just have my golden net DIY, please? A silver polish that contains several different holographic pigments giving you tons of sparkles with a dusting of shifting shimmer.

Will-O-Wisp is an ultra-holographic silver with an aqua-purple ghostly glow. This would be awesome for any special occasion or just when you want all of the holo. I can spot linear holo, scattered holo, and micro holo shreds, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more kinds. With all the different kinds of holo and the shimmer this is a unique polish for me, different from a standard silver holographic. The base on this is either clear or very sheer, so the opacity comes from building up the holo and shimmer. Three thin coats gave me full opacity with a glossy top coat, though I could see my nail line at angles when matte. Matte top coat got rid of the holo, of course, but the shimmer gave it a lovely kind of mother of pearl look. Shown below is the polish in indirect light, then direct light, then matte.

That's all for now! I hope you enjoyed. Tell me which is your favorite down in the comments, or come say hi on Instagram!
